ABOUT ME

Personal Profile

Hi, my name is Benjamin Johnston. I’ve been a filmmaker since my teenage years and I loved movies since I was little. It’s hard to say what specific event got me into filmmaking but I think my love for the craft was a combination of many different inspirations from the actual movies themselves that stimulated my imagination and watching a lot of behind the scenes footage of a movie and how much creativity and effort was put into their magnum opuses. Seeing the many different elements of a film like the music, the effect, the sound, the acting, and everything in between is like seeing a whole world form before you which really fascinates me about art in general.

In High School when I had access to the school’s professional editing software that is when I took the first step into making my own movies. I decided to make my first official short based on “A Visit from St. Nicholas” where I had help from my dad in playing Santa Claus. I shot the whole thing on a Canon FS10 a very simple camcorder and at one point I decided to do a full zoom in on the moon which manage to fit well into the frame. I then edited the short on Adobe Premiere Pro at my school and then uploaded it to YouTube a year later as I wanted it to be ready for the holiday season.

Since then I’ve made other shorts, worked on commercials, and expanded my knowledge on the craft from Academy of Arts University and one day I want to make bigger projects on a more epic scale.

We don't read and write poetry because it's cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for.
